BrickManGraeme featured in The Toronto Star

graeme_dymondtorstar2018

As a member of my local club of adult LEGO fans, I received a request from The Toronto Star to participate in an article featuring ‘big kids’ who never stopped loving LEGO. Our club, ToroLUG, doesn’t have a regular meeting space, so I suggested meeting at my workshop, as I not only have space to host a small gathering, but the reporter also thought that a functioning LEGO workshop would make a perfect backdrop for the story.

Taking a Warp Pipe Over to ToyForce Ajax

20180325_125637

As part of my ongoing relationship with the good people at ToyForce, BrickManGraeme was invited to display an interactive piece of art for the ToyForce event in Ajax on March 25th. Being a Nintendo fan, I always wanted to do a Super Mario themed scene, and with an abundance of green DUPLO, I was able to make it come true in a way that allowed the families attending the event to immerse themselves into my vision. Team Building and Vision Mapping with Peller Estates

We think of LEGO sets as being for the living room, but what happens when we take it to an unexpected place? Like, say, a converted hay loft in a brewery? Graeme recently had the opportunity to find out, as the leader of a team-building exercise with the Peller Estates Wineries staff in Niagara-on-the-Lake. “It was a beautiful late summer day, and the venue was a converted barn that had been transformed into a brewery and event space,” he says. Eight staff members joined together for a morning of individual and collaborative exercises, and over the course the three-hour event, LEGO helped provide insights into working style, personality, and communcation.

Building a Digital Industrial Culture with GE Canada

IMG_20160524_113759.jpgPeople can do a lot with the standard 2×4 LEGO brick, but for a truly inspiring project, it helps to get different pieces into the mix. For GE Canada, these different bricks might be represented by their affinity groups, including the Young Professional Network, the Asian Pacific American Forum, the GE Veterans’ Network, the Women’s Network, the LGBT Network, and the African American Forum. Each of the different groups within GE Canada has their own function and style. Combining them, like at the GE Thought Leadership Event in May, can create something pretty special. Add LEGO into the mix, and the possibilities seem endless.

This is the story of Habitat for Humanity’s Brick for Brick house.

BrickManGraeme Visits TVO Kids “The Space”

TVOKids The Space

I grew up watching TVOntario, which hosted so many great shows in my youth – Polka Dot Door, The Elephant Show, The Edison Twins, to name a few. Admittedly, I never really grew out of watching children’s programming, and with a 2 year old son now, I now get to share this pleasure of quality public programming with another generation.

So when I was invited to be a guest on TVO Kids after school block, The Space, for Wednesday, August 26th, it truly was a dream come true!

BrickManGraeme Builds at TIFF Bell Lightbox

CKOcF6aWIAE7V3GNot every project I do is out in the public eye, but this latest creation was not only out in a very public place, but it was also entirely interactive!
When I was approached to create a model to promote the launch of the documentary, A LEGO Brickumentary, the original request was simply for a replica of the TIFF Bell Lightbox building. If you aren’t familiar with the tower, it is a unique building that would look great in LEGO – but I had another idea, a model that wasn’t just created by me, but by hundreds of people! Read More
